Chocolate Cherry Almond Granola

As you can tell by my posting a second granola post in a week, I love granola. Actually I love baking and I love nuts, dried fruit and oats. I love coming up with recipes that are easy, delicious and nutritious, especially since I don’t have all day to bake with three little girls to look after and I need to fuel my body with awesome calories to do so.

This recipe came to me as I was wondering what different granola recipes I could create. I figured I couldn’t go wrong with chocolate, dried cherries and almonds.

I was right.

Chocolate Cherry Almond Granola

This granola is extremely delicious and addictive. You might just want to go ahead and double the recipe because I can guarantee you that it won’t last long.

Makes 6 cups granola

  • 4 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup dried cherries
  • 1 cup slivered almonds
  • 3/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup sunflower oil

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl combine the rolled oats, cocoa powder, dried cherries and slivered almonds. Add the maple syrup and sunflower oil. Turn the granola mixture out onto the baking sheet and place in the oven to bake for 15-20 minutes, rearranging the granola half way through the baking time. Allow to cool completely before eating. Store in an airtight container or mason jar.

My kids especially enjoy this granola because it turns their milk into chocolate milk, which is super fun! It kind of reminds me of Nesquick cereal in a way, but is obviously way healthier.

Whenever I eat this, even I feel like I am having a treat. If you love chocolate then you will love this recipe. It is sure to satisfy your craving.

  2. Just made this…. WOW…It’s delish!!!! I can’t wait for my girls to ty it in the morning! I used pecans instead of almonds just for a change in nuts. I pay $10 for the same amount of similar granola at the market!……not anymore!!!!
Another one for your recipe book!

    • Well, you don’t need to use the almonds. You could use any other nuts that you like in place of the amount called for if you want or just leave them out too! Hope that helps! 🙂
