Music is always something that lifts my spirit. I often have music playing all day around here, even when I do my yoga in the morning. I put together a playlist of artists and songs that I like and start my sun salutations every morning.
Here are some songs I am loving these days. I always gravitate to songs with deeper meanings and messages that speak to my higher self.
Surprise! Surprise! By Brett Dennen
This song to me is about waking up and becoming conscious and how life and love is right in front of us. Surprise! Surprise! Open up your eyes, it’s happening all around you. If it (awakening) hasn’t found you, well you know it’s just a matter of time.
The World As I See It By Jason Mraz. Helps shift perspective from viewing the world as a sad and depressing or dark place, to something truly remarkable and beautiful. Every man makes a difference and every mother’s child is a saint. It’s not hard or difficult to love others because they are apart of us and they are remarkable and beautiful creations of the divine.
Til Kingdom Come By Coldplay
In this song, I like to think of my human self and ego calling out and praying to the divine light that I am a seeker and a striver and I will wait until kingdom come to know the truth of my being. For you I’d wait, til kingdom come, until my days, my days are done. Say you’ll come and set me free. Say you’ll wait, you’ll wait for me.
This past winter we listened to more mantra music and I stumbled upon this beautiful mantra singer, Jai Jagdeesh. I love all of her music, but the mantra Aud Guray Nameh is my favorite mantra.
Translated:
Aad guray nameh – I bow to (or call on) the primal wisdom
Jugaad guray nameh – I bow (or call on) the wisdom through the ages
Sat guray nameh – I bow (or call on) the true wisdom
Siri guru davay nameh – I bow (or call on) the transparent wisdom within
I also love her song, “With you”
Brett Dennen – Song For Leaving
To me this song is about leaving our old life and self behind and getting on the train of change and transformation. Leaving the past behind and taking the train, even though consciousness can be painful. Don’t you know that pain is apart of the healing? Get on your train.
Enjoy!
Beautiful!

Tiffany, I agree with you – music does lift the spirit. I love the Jason Mraz song ‘The world as I see it.’ I hadn’t even heard his music before until you mentioned it. I love Jack Johnson too. We have similar tastes in music.
Our kids are obsessed with the song ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams. Do your kids have any favourite songs?

I am listening to a lot of Jason Mraz right now and Jack Johnson and John Mayer too are all my forever favorites. That happy song is great! We had never heard that before. π The girls used to listen to a lot of Tinkerbell music and they love Jason Mraz too.

Hi Tiffany, Matisyahu is also an spiritual, inspirational “pop” singer I’m sure you’ve heard of? I remember one line to one of his songs that fits here, something like: we have but one chance, be light…
