Easy Handmade Christmas Tree Ornaments

Last week we made Christmas Ornaments out of baking soda, cornstarch and water. This was a fun craft for the girls to do because they love anything involving paint and glitter. These are also one of the Christmas gifts that we are giving this year to family members.

Easy Handmade Christmas Tree Ornaments

Makes approximately 24 ornaments (use half the recipe if you need less)

  • 3 cups baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups cornstarch
  • 2 cups cold water

Directions

Stir the baking soda, cornstarch and water together in a medium saucepan. Cook the ingredients together on medium heat, stirring continuously until thick and mixture resembles mashed potatoes. Remove from heat and allow to cool a little. Once the dough is cool enough to handle, knead it until smooth and roll it out 1/2 inch thick onto a large clean surface. Cut with your Christmas cookie cutters and then place your Christmas shapes onto a baking sheet. Use a straw to poke a hole in the top of the ornament.  Allow the ornaments to dry 24 hours before painting.

We painted our ornaments first, allowed them to dry and then decorated them with glitter glue to add some sparkle. You will also need string for this to tie on after they are completely dry.

These are super cute and a lot of fun. I wish I had posted this earlier, but there is still one week until Christmas so hopefully someone out there will give this craft a try. These also make lovely Christmas gifts to give from the kids too.
