Life is frustrating. It really, really is. A lot of times things don’t go as planned, especially with my recipes and it really gets me annoyed. BUT the important thing to remember is that if at first you don’t succeed, you try again.
The other day Autumn asked me while on our walk what my favorite thing about myself was. I told her that I like the fact that I never give up. That when things are hard, I try and keep a positive outlook and I always keep trying.
Today I thought that I would write a post about some of the things that you don’t see. A few of the recipe flops and failures that I have had.
Try – Peanut Butter Banana Bread
I was thinking up ways to combine peanut butter with banana and came up with the idea of adding peanut butter to our beloved banana bread. It was yummy, but kind of weird at the same time. I never did post the recipe, even though we did eat it and it looks scrumptious.
Try Again – Peanut Butter Banana Chip Cookie Granola
Peanut butter granola with banana chips and dry roasted peanuts. A much better combination for these two yummy ingredients.
Try – Jam-Filled Muffins
These muffins did not rise, although they did taste yummy. They were also kind of gooey and needed a little something.
Try Again – Coconut Raspberry Oatmeal Muffins
The combination of coconut, raspberries and oats together was just perfect. Using berries instead of jam was a much better way to go for a muffin.
Try – Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes
My idea of piping maple syrup and cinnamon into pancake batter to make cinnamon swirl pancakes. The cinnamon swirl burnt on the pan and did not exactly work out.
Try Again –
Regular Fluffy Whole Wheat Pancakes with cinnamon maple syrup to accomplish that cinnamon bun taste that I was going for. YUMMY!
I also burn pancakes too! 🙂
Try – Coconut Oatmeal Cookies
I love coconut and oats, so these cookies seemed like a great idea. They were a bit too heavy for posting though and so I had to try another way of combining two of my favorite ingredients.
Try Again – Coconut Apricot Cookie Granola
Clusters of maple sweetened oats with shredded coconut and chopped dried apricots! Now we are talking!
I could actually post a lot more recipe flops, but you get the idea. 😉
I am writing this post as a reminder to myself and others to never give up! There will always be disappointments, failures and hard times in life, but it is what we do with those situations that matters most. Do we give up and call it quits or do we pick ourselves up, learn something and try again?
Recipe writing is so hard because everyone has different tastes. What I am learning more than ever these days is that I can’t please everyone. Often times I worry about what other people might think of a recipe or if I should even try and have a book because people might not like what I make. I not only do this with recipes, but with everything else too. Blogging was easier when I thought nobody was out there reading my thoughts and my life.
Now I realize that if I try only to please others, then I will live a pretty miserable life and never really do anything. I am instead just going to continue doing what I love and what makes me happy and trust my gut about things because I can’t waste my time worrying what might happen or what someone might think.
Just a life lesson that I have been learning these days. 🙂
