Spring is a beautiful time to spend every sunny moment outside…
and to put in a garden!
This is the first garden we have ever had and my man dug it all out himself!
It is going to be pretty big too!
Autumn is so excited about this and is already helping by ‘weeding’ it as often as she can.
I am excited too! I can’t wait to have fresh vegetables right out my kitchen window! I think that this is such a great thing to do for so many reasons, but I especially like being in touch with the earth and the whole planting and harvesting. This will also save us a lot of money as well as cut back on carbon emissions by not having to buy produce that has been transported from all over the place.
I also think this is such a great experience for the kids too! They are learning all about what is healthy and how the food we eat grows. We are letting them choose some vegetables that they want to plant and take care of as well, which gives them so much excitement and makes them feel involved in the whole thing.
On my garden wishlist:
- Lettuce
- Kale
- Onions
- Corn on the cob!
- Zucchinis
- Cucumber
- Beans
- Peas
- Carrots
- Garlic
- Peppers
- Pumpkin
The girls want strawberries and watermelon too. We will have to see about that.
Do you plant a vegetable garden? What are you planting this year?
This morning on the way to school, I was so excited for you when I saw your garden all dug up! And, then I came home to read about it on your blog. You must have a hard-working man there!! I CANNOT imagine my dear husband doing the same. π I’m sort of dreaming of a garden this spring, too. We’ll just see if I can actually get it going! But, I think you just inspired me to give it a try again.

Wow … that is going to be a beautiful garden. I’m so impressed that your hubby dug that whole thing up himself. That’s some serious work!! Some of my best memories are picking produce from my great uncles garden and being allowed to help with planting, etc. Your girls will learn so much and mmm … doesn’t a vegetable that one nurtures just taste so much better. π We grow veggies & herbs in containers on our patio (we live in an apartment) and this year I’ve planted several things just outside our railing. We’ve planted tomatoes, peppers, herbs, green beans, cucumbers, okra, soy beans and, for the birds, sunflowers. π
Can’t wait to see how your garden grows! Thanks for sharing pictures of the prep work and your team of workers.
