I finally did it! I made my first ever homemade vegan milk! 🙂
I still have that giant bag of hemp seed in my freezer, so last night I went to work and made my very own homemade hemp milk. Well, Kesa helped.
Homemade Vanilla Hemp Milk
Perfect for morning oatmeal or granola.
Makes 3 cups
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shelled hemp seeds
- 3 cups filtered water
- 1-2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Directions
Place the shelled hemp seeds and water together in a food processor or blender.
Blend on high for 3-5 minutes, until smooth and milky white.
Strain the milk by pouring it a little bit at a time into a nut milk bag or fine sieve set up over a 4 cup liquid measuring cup. Allow the milk to drip through the bag or sieve and into the measuring cup, leaving behind any small hemp pieces. You may have to squeeze the cloth to help get the milk out.
Discard the hemp debris or save for a future recipe. Stir in the maple syrup, to taste and vanilla extract.
Pour into a mason jar and refrigerate for up to 5 days. The milk will separate in the fridge. Just give it a good shake before you use it.
