We love Dr. Seuss around here! The books of his are so full of great lessons for kids and adults too. Here are some of my favorite quotes from an awesome guy!
“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”
“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.”
“If you’d never been born, then you might be an Isn’t!
An Isn’t has no fun at all. No, he disn’t.”
“So be sure when you step, Step with care and great tact. And remember that life’s A Great Balancing Act. And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed).”
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
“You’re in pretty good shape for the shape you are in.”
“”I’m afraid sometimes you’ll play lonely games too, games you can’t win because you’ll play against you””
“”I’m sorry to say so but, sadly it’s true that bang-ups and hang-ups can happen to you””
“I know up on the top you are seeing great sights, but down at the bottom we, too, should have rights.” – Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories
“Waiting for the fish to bite or waiting for wind to fly a kite. Or waiting around for Friday night or waiting perhaps for their Uncle Jake or a pot to boil or a better break or a string of pearls or a pair of pants or a wig with curls or another chance. Everyone is just waiting.”
“Did you ever fly a kite in bed?
Did you ever walk with ten cats on your head?
Did you ever milk this kind of cow?
Well, we can do it. We know how.
If you never did, you should.
These things are fun and fun is good.”
“Why fit in when you were born to stand out?”
“You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.”
“You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.”
“I know it is wet and the sun is not sunny, but we can have lots of good fun that is funny.”
“Try them, try them, and you may! Try them and you may, I say.”
“When you think things are bad,
when you feel sour and blue,
when you start to get mad…
you should do what I do!
Just tell yourself, Duckie,
you’re really quite lucky!
Some people are much more…
oh, ever so much more…
oh, muchly much-much more
unlucky than you!”
“You’ll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act. Just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left.”
“And when you’re alone there’s a very good chance
you’ll meet things that scare you right out of your pants
There are some, down the road between hither and yon,
that can scare you so much you won’t want to go on.”
“With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet, you’re too smart to go down any not-so-good street.”
“We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”
“Be grateful you’re not in the forest in France
Where the average young person just hasn’t a chance
To escape from the perilous pants eating plants
But your pants are safe, you’re a fortunate guy
You ought to be shouting how lucky am I”
“Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen Hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regrets. Appreciate your friends. Continue to learn. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is”
“Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.”
🙂
I will sound crazy to you, but I am a total stranger googling Dr. Seuss quotes to share at my sisters wedding where next week, I will give the Maid of honor toast! (she is a teacher and likes Dr. Seuss). I think I am going to use this last quote! ““Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.” to finish my remarks..and to then add how we wish them many happy tomorrows for all the tomorrows yet to come for decades down the road of life, etc…just wanted to thank you for sharing that quote! 🙂
